Mid-level research, design, and development of computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development. Analyzes software requirements to determine the feasibility of designs within time and cost constraints. Consult with hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate the interface between hardware and software, and the operational and performance requirements of overall system. Also is responsible for the management of software. Main contacts are with applications developers and programmers, network analysts, hardware engineers, and systems administrators. The work may include the use of manuals, guidelines, or other established procedures containing or relating to highly technical, scientific, legal, financial, or other similarly complex matters that can be understood or interpreted only by those with advanced or specialized knowledge or skills.
