Evaluates factors to determine hardware configurations, including the number of departments serviced by the data processing equipment, the reporting formats required, the volume of transactions, the time requirements, the cost constraints and the need for security and access restrictions. Analyzes data processing requirements to plan a data processing system that will provide system capabilities required for projected workloads. Plans the layout and installation of new systems or modification of the existing system. Confers with data processing and project managers to obtain information on the limits and capabilities of the existing system and the capabilities required for data processing projects and projected workloads. Main contacts are with users, network designers and application programmers. The work may include the use of manuals, guidelines or other established procedures containing or relating to highly technical, scientific, legal, financial or other similarly complex matters that can be understood or interpreted only by those with advanced or specialized knowledge or skills.
