Resiliency. Transparency. Collaboration. Accountability. Inclusion. We’ve read study after study that tells us there is a strong correlation between these aspects of a company culture to market growth and innovation. It’s why we focused this issue of the MRA Edge on courageous leadership.
According to researcher and storyteller Brené Brown, valuing courage is one of the hallmarks of a great culture and something that successful organizations embed within the fabric of their existence. It requires leaders that listen, ask questions, lean into discomfort, and don’t fear failure. It requires an environment where people feel safe, seen, heard, and respected.
What do we see when organizations don’t support a “speak up” or “listen up” culture? Loss of trust, loss of engagement, or worse yet, the loss of great talent. It’s an outcome that should motivate employers to pay attention to what’s going on within their culture, and take action before it’s too late.
