As the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, “The only constant in life is change.” This was said around 500 B.C. so there is irony in how applicable it still is. As we scan the world around us, the way we respond to workplace situations is different than it was only a few years ago. Conditions associated with talent, equality, compensation, and employee relations have forced us to look at things through a new lens.
Employees are the driving force for changes in policy and practice. Social movement over the past 50 years has led to more focused DEI efforts, the ability to work from literally anywhere is a standard, and what is deemed necessary experience on a resumé is no longer based on the number of years spent with a company. Burnout is real and providing mental health resources is crucial. Becoming an employer of choice means connecting with the people who work for you and making decisions that put them first.
