When we asked MRA members where their HR teams need the most development this year, the responses reflected a familiar reality: HR is balancing high expectations with limited time, resources, and capacity. The pulse survey surfaced several clear priorities that many of you are actively navigating.

Pulse Survey Chart

Strengthening Strategic and Data‑Driven Capabilities

A combined 52% of respondents identified two closely linked development needs:

  • Strategic business partnership (26%)
  • Data analytics and metrics‑based decision making (26%)

Members shared that they’re being asked to contribute more directly to organizational strategy while also bringing stronger data to the table. It’s a significant shift — and one that requires new skills, tools, and confidence as expectations rise.

When it comes to data and analytics, most HR teams weren’t built with an analyst on staff — but expectations for reporting, forecasting, and workforce insights keep growing.

Enhancing Communication and Conflict Management

24% of HR professionals cited conflict resolution and communication as their top development need. With complex workplaces, evolving employee expectations, and fastmoving decisions, HR continues to play a central role in coaching leaders and supporting effective communication across the organization.

Exploring Innovations in the Employee Experience

While fewer respondents selected it as their primary focus, 14% highlighted innovating the employee experience. Many teams are looking for ways to streamline processes, introduce thoughtful improvements, and elevate the everyday moments that shape culture and engagement.

Building Comfort with HR Technology

Eleven percent of members pointed to technology and digital adoption as an area where they want to grow. Whether it’s leveraging HRIS tools more effectively or evaluating new systems, technology continues to evolve — and HR teams are working to keep pace.

Supporting Members as Their Roles Evolve

Across all responses, one common theme emerged: HR is being asked to do more — and the work is becoming more strategic, more cross-functional, and more complex. As always, you don’t have to navigate those expectations alone.
