Unemployment insurance (UI) is a joint state-federal program that provides cash benefits to eligible workers, typically those who are unemployed through no fault of their own, such as lack of available work. Each state administers a separate unemployment insurance program, but all states follow the same guidelines established by federal law.

MRA has compiled a list of questions and answers to assist employers as they manage unemployment insurance questions related to layoffs and how the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act increased and expanded the unemployment insurance benefits available during the COVID-19 pandemic.
