The workplace shift is happening. As more and more baby boomers—like me—are heading down the path to retirement, a new generation is entering the ranks. Retirements open up opportunities not only for those left behind, but for the organization. It is a time to review and evaluate positions and responsibilities and look ahead to assess not only what you need now, but what you will need in the future in order to be successful. Some in the younger generation want more from their employer. They demand more development opportunities, they want to have specific goals to work on, and they want clear communication from their manager. Use of technology is also important. They want an organization that values and invests in smart technology to increase efficiency and improve results. And can we throw in a little bit of fun too while at work?

While some may say, “That’s not how we used to do it,” it's OK. In an ever-changing business landscape, the key strategy is to tap the talents of all employees and constantly be on the hunt for ways to engage all employees and grow a successful organization.
