Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”

Change continues to be a constant challenge for organizations in order to stay competitive. With the news of the demise of Toys R Us, a classic go-to resource for all things toys and children when my daughters were young, is just another example of a business that failed to find a way to keep up with new ways to engage customers.

Of course, keeping up with new technology is essential to not only provide better products, but to improve processes, create efficiencies, and add value for the customer. Drawing on the experience and ideas of your work group is important as well. Those at the top of the organization don’t have all the answers. Those who are doing the work or providing the service often have some of the best ideas. Be sure to tap that resource!

The enemy of success is being passive—as well as thinking that your organization is always going to be at the top even as times and customer needs change!
