A vibrant presence—that’s Cheryl Lucas-DeBerry. And that’s what Cheryl brings to every training experience. Participants report that her programs are interactive and involving, yet comfortable and fun. With her casual, inclusive style, she has a reputation for excellence among participants who routinely refer coworkers and colleagues.

Expertise

Cheryl’s more than 18 years of experience include the development of programs in human resources, leadership, customer service, and diversity. Her career has also included management of training department operations and supervision of a basic education program for adult learners in the nonprofit arena. During her years as an independent consultant, Cheryl advised and trained numerous managers in effective communication techniques and leadership skills.

  • Managed training operations for a 32-clinic healthcare facility.
  • Owned and operated a successful training consultancy specializing in effective communication techniques and leadership skills.
  • Designed, developed, and facilitated training programs both nationally and internationally.
  • Contributed as a member of a development task force that successfully re-designed and enhanced MRA’s flagship leadership series.

Education

Cheryl earned a master’s degree in adult education from Carroll College, Waukesha, Wisconsin, and a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from the University of Tennessee–Knoxville.

Professional and Community Activities

Cheryl is a member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD, formerly ASTD), National Association for African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR), and Zonta International. She has also served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
