Steve knows the daily realities of managing a team and can coach managers on what they need to do to become more effective. His emphasis is on inspiring and encouraging class participants to apply what they learn in class back on the job. With experience in both line and staff positions, Steve has a unique ability to break down the concept of leadership and make it relevant, understandable, and transferable to class participants. Steve enjoys discussing real-life work problems and real-life solutions. He trains and competes in triathlons and enjoys Nordic ski racing, mountain biking, and a variety of endurance sports.
After graduating from Georgia Tech, Steve worked for a Missouri-based cheese producer as a production supervisor, leading a group of experienced employees. At age 25 he was promoted to department manager, with two salaried supervisors reporting to him and responsibilities for a three-shift operation of 120 employees. After 12 years of production management experience, Steve worked as a human resource manager in the company’s Wisconsin Rapids (WI) plant until joining MRA in 1996.
- Taught approximately 3,000 participants over the last five years how to be more effective leaders.
- Facilitated and encouraged the application of specific methods taught in training sessions through work assignments.
- Advised and coached leaders/class participants on specific action they could take to improve their effectiveness in specific situations back on the job.
Steve received a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia.
