Wisconsin’s talent pipeline hasn’t been this dry since the early 1990s. Our aging workforce, low birthrates and lack of in-migration have created the perfect storm. It is times like these when we re-evaluate...everything!
Wisconsin recently received a New Skills for Youth grant from JPMorgan Chase to strengthen and expand career education opportunities for our students. This grant builds on existing efforts, with a focus in four technical college regions – Indianhead, Madison, Milwaukee and Moraine Park. Regional directors will facilitate and leverage cooperation in each area to ensure we are building the best regional structures possible.
MRA is pleased to support the efforts of this employer-led initiative. Our members throughout Wisconsin will work with chambers, EDOs, workforce investment boards, higher education and K-12. We will give students the ability to see where professional opportunities exist and allow the business community to share their future employment needs.
As we recruit "CEO Champions" to lead this initiative in the four selected regions, I encourage businesses to get involved. In my 30 years of working with business and education to develop quality career pathways, I have not worked on an initiative with this much potential to be game changing for Wisconsin students.
