In 2015, Wisconsin became a right-to-work state, meaning joining a union and paying dues and fees to a union is voluntary.  Under federal labor law, states are permitted to pass such right-to-work provisions.

While the Wisconsin law is clear on most issues, the effects of this law may develop over time and we will keep members informed of further interpretations. MRA has compiled a list of questions and answers for employers describing what this means for Wisconsin employers.
