Wisconsin Makes Adjustments in UI

Wisconsin has made a number of changes to the existing unemployment regulations. One of these may be of particular interest to employers experiencing excessive employee tardiness and absenteeism without notice. An employee may be disqualified from receiving benefits when terminated for failure to provide notice of tardy and/or absence if all the following occur:

  1. Written policy which defines what a "tardy" is.
  2. The employee is given the policy.
  3. The policy is uniformly applied.
  4. The employer gives at least one warning before discharge.
  5. Six tardies or five absences without notice have occurred within a 12-month period.
